Dr. Ted Greiner has had a long career in research, teaching, advocacy, and publication in the field of public health nutrition for low-income settings, beginning in 1975. He spent several years in Yemen, running a program on protecting, supporting and promoting breastfeeding and later assisting in setting up the first nutrition unit in the Ministry of Health. He then served as nutrition advisor to the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) for 19 years, based at Uppsala University Medical School, where he was Associate Professor of International Child Health. Following this, he worked for four years as senior nutritionist at the Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH) and seven years as a full professor at the highest ranked food and nutrition department in South Korea, based at Hanyang University.
He has served many times as nutrition consultant to the World Bank, FAO (writing two books published by them), UNICEF, WHO, World Vision, and other agencies, including Statistics Sweden, for whom he designed a national nutrition survey in Lesotho. He was a delegate at the United Nations System Standing Committee on Nutrition continuously from 1987 to 2010, serving as Chair for the Bilateral Agencies and later Chair of the NGO/Civil Society Constituency. He is now the Editor-in-Chief of the journal World Nutrition.
Dr. Greiner has a PhD from Cornell University in international nutrition, a master's degree from Cornell University in human nutrition and communication arts, and a master’s degree in education from Washington University.
