Paul Sommers

Paul Sommers has over 40 years of experience as an innovative food systems security practitioner, with diverse and broad experience in over 55 countries. His distinctive field experience in program management, design, implementation, monitoring & evaluation, mentoring, and training has continuously focused on linking local agricultural resources to achieve positive nutritional outcomes within a supply chain framework. He has additional crucial experience in addressing local food security issues in conflict zones and natural disaster events. 

Paul has also worked on a wide variety of food security research activities, including adviser to the USAID’s funded Feed the Future FEEDBACK Project. The brief included advising on assessments of value chain driven food security programs in the multiple developing countries of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. His tasks included revising field questionnaires, performance monitoring surveys, impact evaluations, knowledge management, and in-country capacity building. 

Paul has extensive knowledge of working with U.N., DFID, EU, and USAID contractors. He has a bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences (plant science) from California State University, Fresno. He has a master’s degree in nutrition from the University of Philippines, Los Banos (Fulbright Fellowship), and a Doctor of Science (hon) from the State Agrarian University, Armenia.
