JUAN SCHOEMAKER

Dr. Juan Schoemaker has extensive experience in research and evaluation, data analysis, and the use of statistical software. As Senior Program Manager for the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Program, he managed all administrative and technical matters of large-scale surveys. He worked as Senior Research and Evaluation Officer at Johns Hopkins and is thoroughly conversant with current evaluation methodologies. As Senior Resident Research and Evaluation advisor in large multiple-partner projects, Dr. Schoemaker set up systems and the procedures to monitor and evaluate complex, long-term public health interventions in Indonesia and Uganda. 

His research and evaluation experience has been in the area of public health. He is also very familiar with the issues of climate change, development and health, and how these three variables interrelate. His professional career spans more than 30 years, during which he worked in numerous developing countries, covering Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and the Caribbean. 

Dr. Schoemaker is fluent in Spanish, French and Portuguese and has demonstrated his ability to work successfully in a wide variety of environments, even under inhospitable circumstances.  He has Doctorate and MA degrees in Demography and a BA degree in Sociology and Anthropology.
